It’s been more and more difficult for internet users to access Steam’s site in China in the past few weeks; the site is often blocked for no reason, which has already led a large number of Chinese users to stop purchasing games on Steam.
The Chinese authorities have implemented stringent control rules for gaming and VR content; it looks like Steam could be forced to abandon the Chinese market, were the company unable to comply with the local regulations.
This is not good news for the Chinese studios developing VR content; on the other hand, that could represent an opportunity for the local VR distribution platorms such as VeerVR, Viveport, Juzi VR, or equipment providers like Nined VR or Zamer VR.
