Seismic Games Bring Blockbusters Heroes To VR

The people who helped bring you Star Wars: Battlefront and several entries in the Call of Duty series are making waves again. This year, Seismic Games will release the innovative mobile role playing game Marvel Strike Force and the immersive virtual reality game Blade Runner: Revelations, tied to the recent film sequel Blade Runner 2049 starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. As gaming increasingly leans toward major IP including big box office brands, the potential for VR, AR, and other innovative technologies to change how we experience entertainment — including cinema — grows.

Marvel Strike Force, which Seismic developed with FoxNext Games, will be available for Android and iOS devices during the next couple of months. Blade Runner: Revelations, developed in partnership with Google, releases on the Google Daydream platform, including Lenovo’s upcoming standalone Mirage Solo VR headset. The two games are visually stunning, with crisp, bright images full of fan-pleasing details of their respective worlds. And both games take advantage of new potential in mobile and VR gaming.

Blade Runner: Revelations really takes advantage of new potential in mobile and VR gaming. Using Google’s Worldsense technology to maintain wireless awareness of a user’s physical position and movements within a given space, free of external tracking. On the Daydream platform, you’ll have several options for playing Revelations, but the most intriguing is the new VR experience via the Mirage Solo. It’s entirely wireless and self-contained, so you can move around freely during gameplay, while the headset is relatively lightweight and nicely balanced so there’s no forward pitch or headache.
