Farpoint Is Biggest VR Hit Yet In The UK

There’s all change in this week’s UK top 40, as Sony’s big budget PSVR game proves a hit and Fire Emblem Echoes also performs well.

DC Comics fighter Injustice 2 has gone straight to the top of the UK sales charts, becoming the first fighting game to hit number one in the UK since the same team’s Mortal Kombat X in 2015.

The PlayStation 4 version took the lion’s share of sales, at 63% to the Xbox One’s 37%. Although strangely there is no PC version of the game.

Injustice 2 was always certain to hit number one, but the real surprise is that PlayStation VR exclusive Farpoint got as high as number two in the all formats chart and number three in the individual formats.

Nintendo’s game came in ahead of the sci-fi style Dark Souls clone The Surge, which only just snuck in at the bottom of the top 10. The PlayStation 4 version was the best-selling, peaking at number 12 in the individual formats chart.

The rest of the all formats chart movement was dominated by retailers’ stock clearance sales, with Activison’s Skylanders SuperChargers and Destiny: The Collection popping back in at numbers 20 and 31, respectively.

This week is much quieter at retail, and although much-anticipated indie game RiME is being released in a boxed version on consoles most of its sales are still likely to be digital. There’s also Nintendo Switch games Ultra Street Fighter II and Disgaea 5 Complete, but they’re likely to have only niche appeal.
