Clip’n Click: Make Phone Calls In 360° With Giroptic

VR sounds chicer in French! From Montréal to Paris, Brussels to Tahiti, Dakar to Geneva, ‘Haute VR’ informs you about everything that’s going on in the francophone world of Virtual Reality.

Giroptic is a French startup based in Lille (North of France) will revolutionize telephone communication on October 26 by allowing users make phone calls in 360° just using a smartphone and a small add-on module.

The start-up works in 360°captation since 2008, and has since become an international reference in that domain.

360° video technology allows users to live a full immersion experience within a real environment. To achieve this, you need a camera equipped with at least two cameras, plus a digital process allowing the stitching of the images to recreate one spherical environment.

This is exactly what Giroptic is doing, in a simple, immediate fashion, to enable direct phone calls in 360°.

During Facebook’s conference last April, Mark Zuckerberg abundantly commented on 360° video and AR, two hot topics for Facebook founder, who gave away more than 4,400 Giroptic modules to the audience.

“We are experts in 360° picture and video captation; the user experience for our product is very simple: you just need to clip and click”, Cyril Gryson, the founder of Giroptic, says.

This 26 October, the French startup will officially launch an application that will make 360° calls possible to everyone. It will be a world’s first. “We’ll all be able to call anyone in 360°; we are the only ones able to propose this technology at this point. Giroptic is the Facetime of the future.”
