Can VR Fight Aerophobia?

A group of Brisbane creative advertising students hope their idea to install virtual reality headsets on flights will really take off and help those with aerophobia.

Their concept DreamFlight would see the headsets given to passengers with a fear of flying, in effect taking them out of the aeroplane environment and immersing them in an environment of their choosing.

Four international students from the Queensland University of Technology — Chloe Reynaud, Nicolai Henriksen, Enrique Caballero and Shashin Weeratunga — are the brains behind the idea.

They researched, wrote and shot an advertising campaign for the idea, which has now seen them nominated as finalists in the Future Lions competition in Cannes.

The brief for the competition was to connect a brand (the team chose Google) to an audience in a way that was not possible three years ago due to technology.
