The reshaping of The Battery Atlanta continues as a host of non-baseball experiences are being added to the lineup outside SunTrust Park.
The Braves Development Company said it’s adding new tenants to the 1.5 million square foot mixed-use development, including a 9,000-square-foot virtual-reality experience center and an escape room.
“These additions continue our goal of making The Battery Atlanta a place to go and enjoy unique experiences with family, friends and co-workers,” said Mike Plant, president and CEO of the Braves Development Company, in a news release. “The Battery Atlanta has become a year-round lifestyle destination for the Southeast and we’re happy add these fun experiential entertainment options.”
New additions will include The VOID, a whole body virtual reality experience that combines VR technology, physical stages and multi-sensory effects including touch and smell. The “hyper reality” venues are located in six U.S. cities, plus two in Canada, one in Malaysia and one in Dubai. The first Georgia location is set for Battery Avenue, adjacent to the Coca-Cola Roxy and scheduled to open in January.
Another feature, The Escape Game, is set for a 5,000-plus-square-foot space on Battery Avenue. Customers have 60 minutes to escape one the rooms while immersed in a story that requires teamwork. It’s scheduled to open in 2019.
Atlanta Business Chronicle reported earlier this month that another $300 million worth of new development is planned around the Atlanta Braves’ Cobb County home. That includes a roughly $60 million project that will bring a new hotel, cinema and gourmet market to the development that surrounds the ballpark.
Braves Development Co., the real estate arm of the Braves, is also partnering with Dallas, Texas-based Encore Hospitality LLC to build a 140-room Aloft Hotel, scheduled to open in 2020.
