Try Out Your Ikea Xmas Tree In AR Before You Buy It

Shoppers on the hunt for the perfect Christmas tree can now check to see what size fir will fit in their homes, thanks to Ikea’s virtual reality app.

The app lets you “try” four different sized Christmas trees at home before you head out and buy it: The new feature on the app means that sizing up a festive fir in store only to chop the top of it off to make it fit at home could soon become a thing of the past.

According to the Swedish design store, 38 per cent of us have admitted to picking up the wrong sized tree.

The traditional tree is 2.25 m or 7.4 ft tall, the minimalist is less full and 2 m or 6.6 ft tall, while the fejka stands at 1.8 m or 5.9 ft. There is also a small white tree that is only 1 m or 3.3ft tall.

Once you’ve downloaded the app, you need to point it at the ground so that it can size up the room you want to put the tree in. Then all you need to do is select the tree you’d like to try and point it at where you want to put it.

Android users will be disappointed to know that the technology has been built with Apple, so you won’t be able to use it unless you have an iPhone or iPad.

After you’ve placed the tree, the app will automatically resize it as you move closer or further away from it so you can get a real feel of what it will look like in your home.

You can also take a photo of it in place to save it and send it so you can show others.

Of course, all four trees only come in the stated heights and are available from IKEA but you can also use it if you’re just looking to get an idea of what kind of tree will fit your home.

The app is free to download and there’s no obligation to buy anything you try out either.
