Following in El Ministerio del Tiempo’s footsteps, Spain’s RTVE is to launch a virtual reality (VR) content piece to extend the series’ transmedia reach.
Ministerio VR: Salva el Tiempo, which has been presented at Sitges film festival, is a ten-minute episode inspired by videogames and escape room experiences.
The second VR episode produced under the umbrella of El Ministerio del Tiempo will be available for PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, and is ready to watch on Steam and Samsung GEAR. It won’t be suitable for smartphone viewing or for cardboard VR glasses.
“It’s a short thriller that will enable viewers and fans to interact with the series’ main characters. We intended to create something really interactive, giving freedom of movement and action to the viewers,” said Ignacion Gómez, director, new projects, TVE.
For the first VR episode, RTVE partnered with Future Lighthouse. Roberto Romero, the company’s CEO, said: “It’s important for a public broadcaster to boost innovation with no limits, to bring the audience into the future.”
